R7000P - flashing DD-WRT with latest NG firmware

$

Can anyone comment if there are problems with the current Netgear firmware preventing a DD-WRT flash? I know this was an issue with the latest R7000 NG firmware. Currently have V1.3.1.64_10.1.36 on the R7000P and looking to put a recent kong build - any reasons I can’t dive in?

So i thought i did my research. But obvoiously not good enough.

R7000 Flash Back From Tomato Bricked

Hello,

I was running the latest Advanced Tomato Shibby Mod on my R7000 but decided to flash back to Netgears.  I followed his instructions here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNIpBJPRogY

I got as far as flashing it with the r7000-back-to-ofw.trx file.  Upon reboot lights all flash looking good, I get 3-4 pings from 192.168.1.1, but then they die.  The power and ethernet port lights are the only ones lit.  This same behavior is repeatable by power cycles the router.  I've tried the 30/30/30 process multiple times, sometimes a lot longer.  Not sure where to go from here.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jeff

Hi Guys,

I have a pretty good ISP with 500Mbps download speed. However i have noticed that the latest stable KONg built for the R7000 gives me at most half WAN speeds. Anybody else has the issue? For now I have gone back to the stable fall 2018 release which seems to work great. Is there anyway to get the feedback to teh developer of Kong?

R7000 DD-WRT Kong Build Question

Hello,

I have the R7000 and am currently using Kongs 9/23/18 build (v3.0-r37015M kongac).  I see he had dropped some summer build, but some people were complaining about it, so I am hesitant.  What can I use instead of Kong?  Brain Slayer is taking over Kong Builds?  Should I reset my router and try a different open source solution?  Should I get a new router, and use a different open source build?

TIA

Network name (SSID) resets after router reboot

Hi,

I flashed AdvancedTomato firmware (v3.5-140 AIO-64K) on my R7000 router recently. The internet works fine but whenever I try to reboot my router either by turning off the router and turning it on or when trying to reboot from the UI, the SSID resets back to Tomato24 and Tomato5. Also the network password, the admin password, the time everything is being reset.

I tried automatic reboot once in week using the scheduler and even with that everything resets to default values. Any idea on how to keep my SSID, passwords, time everything the same after a normal reboot? I tired a thorough nvram erase and that did not fix anything

OpenWRT to something else... how?

Hi there,

I'm brand new at this 3rd party firmware thing, but I needed to try something as my router is sitting aside not being used because it's imcompatible with my ISP's modem/router.

One thing lead to another, and I now have OpenWRT 19.07.1 installed, and could figure most of if out, except for WIFI, which as it turns out isn't really supported on the R7000; so much so, there isn't even a WIFI settings page.

So I'm wanting to change to another option; I'm not too concerned if it's DD or Tomato, as long as I have WIFI settings, and the abilty to assign a VLAN number to the WAN port.

What would be the easist way to change to one of these?

Thanks!

NightHawk R7000P(AC2300)
OEM Stock standard router brand new out of the box.
OEM R7000P factory installed firmware version : V1.3.1.64_10.1.36

Can any one assist with step-by-step instructions to flash this new router to
DD-WRT to allow NORDVPN (OpenVPN) firmware to work on this hardware.
----------------------- Step by Step -------------------

Step 1. I login to the router |admin|setup and clear the router back to factory settings.

Step 2. Do I down grade the current OEM version of firmware to a lower version ?
Example : R7000P-V1.0.0.44_1.0.27.zip

Step 3. Do I need to pre-flash with a boot loader version of Kong firmware.
Example: factory-to-dd-wrt-chk
netgear-r7000p-webflash.bin

Step 4. Do I flash with DD-WRT Kong firmware after step 3 preflash?
Example dd-wrt.K3_R7000p.chk

Step 5. Do I reset the router after the new DD-WRT firmware versions is installed?

Step 6. Configure the new DD-WRT firmware settings to OPENVPN

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks

Initial firmware for tomato problem

I'm trying to install advanced tomato from here https://advancedtomato.com/downloads/router/r7000 onto my brand new r7000(ac-1900). I had to go through some minor initial setup with genie to allow me to get to the router update page. The genie version is V1.0.9.64_10.2.64 I tried to install the initial firmware

tomato-R7000-1.28.AT-ARM-3.5-140-initial-64K.chk

but I get an error saying the firmware is not compatible with the router (error -2).

Is there a tomato install that's compatible with this genie?

I think my router is in a boot loop

I think my router is in a boot loop. Is that really what's going on? Any way I can solve this? I love this router!

It's a Netgear AC1900 Smart WiFi Router (R7000):
https://i.imgur.com/onp3JYh.jpg

I can't be 100% sure of what version is installed, unfortunately.

But it's not an old one, that's for sure, I flashed a firmware earlier this year for MultiWAN (that I actually ended up not taking advantage), so it's fair to assume it's the latest K26ARM: tomato-R7000-ARM--140-AIO-64K.

The last thing I did before this happen was change the DNS, and one thing I did was setting both DNS1 and DNS2 to the same IP, inside my network, to set up a LAN cache. I know I didn't have to use the same IP in both, I just did it anyways :(

So that's pretty much when this started happening, I set the DNSs, saved and rebooted the router just to be sure.

Now here what's happening:

R7000 Switch and wifi extender setup question

$

Hello all,

I wired my house to have most of my equipment wired and have an old R7000 in a box that I would like to used to firstly replace my netgear switch in the atic but also to use it as a wifi extender for the first floor and and I am wondering what is the best firmware to use on it and what mode to use to set it up?

My current set up is as follow:

TP-LINK-W9970=>

Router port 4 => Netgear GS308 (8 ports) => Living Room (TV/Kodi Box/Xbox One/BT Vision box/NAS)
Router port 3 => CAT6 cable => Netgear GS605 V4 (5 ports) located in the attic =>

=> Office (2 ports) 1x Desktop PC & 1x Laptop occasionally.
=> Master Bedrooms 1x Smart TV

So the R7000 will replace the Netgear GS605 located in the attic as a switch for the wired connection but I also want it to extend/boost the wifi on the first floor.

I hope that make sense?

Return To Netgear

Hi everyone. I think I have bricked my r7000 after trying to upgrade to the latest dd-wrt. There's no internet/wi-fi. I can't figure it out. I think it's best I return to Netgear firmware. Has anyone done that? Does anyone know the steps I need to take to restore my router, please.

Thank you, I appreciate any help.

Bricked after attempting to upgrade firmware

I had FreshTomato "2020.1 K26ARM USB AIO-64K" installed and working well on my Netgear R7000 AC1900 until I updated my computer's OS from Linux Mint to 20.3 which in turn updated samba to 4.13.17 which no longer supports SMB1, so cifs would no longer mount from the router.

I tried flashing "freshtomato-R7000-ARM_NG-2022.1-AIO-64K.trx", but received a "Bad trx header".

I then tried flashing "R7000-back-to-ofw.trx" and it said it was successful.

But now the router will not boot.  (Solid amber light.  Never blinks.)

I've removed the cover and connected a serial/USB adapter and ran "minicomp -s" to see what was going on.  Here is the output from the attempted boot:

----------------------------------------------------

Thanks
